If your phone has successfully entered DFU mode, nothing will appear on screen.

iPhone DFU mode is not something you will need or want to use on an everyday basis. Even if you are experiencing technical problems, you are better offing using Recovery Mode before as a first step. However, there are a few occasions when you may need it including:

  • If you want to downgrade from the current iOS on the device. Sometimes, new upgrades cause device issues or apps to malfunction. In general, you should avoid this, but it may become necessary if Apple has bricked your phone with the latest iOS.
  • If you want to jailbreak or un-jailbreak your iOS device
  • If you need to remove an expired beta iOS version
  • Repair an iPhone that won’t boot past iPhone logo

Be aware, it can be risky to put your phone into DFU mode. It’s very possible you will erase some or all of your data or corrupt core system files. And if you use DFU mode to downgrade the iOS or to jailbreak, you’ll likely violate your device warranty.
